June 19th is World Sickle Cell Awareness Day. At Optimum Pediatric Services, we provide care for children with medically fragile conditions, and some of our patients live with sickle cell disease. In honor of our patients who are sickle cell superheroes, we want to share three ways you can help raise awareness for World Sickle Cell Day.
3 Ways to Raise Awareness for World Sickle Cell Day
Join a Community Event
All around the world, there are sickle cell disease awareness events happening throughout the month of June. The Sickle Cell Disease Association of America posts about different events across the U.S. that are helping to raise awareness this month. Check out the website to join an event near you.
Donate to a Sickle Cell Disease Nonprofit
Another great way to show support for World Sickle Cell Awareness Day is by donating to a nonprofit that works to help sickle cell patients. The following nonprofits do amazing work to advance medical research and support people affected by sickle cell disease:
Help Spread the Word
There are many ways that you can spread the word about sickle cell disease and medical research efforts around the condition. Whether through in-person connections or social media, talking about sickle cell disease is one of the easiest ways to raise awareness. If you do end up posting about World Sickle Cell Awareness Day on social media, make sure to use the hashtag #WorldSickleCellDay.
